A Contemporary Kitchen Design Ideas by Mal Corboy

This stunning contemporary kitchen design is created by Mal Corboy for his client that has purchased this penthouse apartment off the plans and has been three years in the making. The award winning Architect for the apartment project had designed this contemporary complex with very modern simple lines. There is a high degree of glass and natural stone on the exterior.

Their client wanted a very masculine looking space which make the designer chose the Stat Vein Marble and Stainless Steel, which provided an overall strong mono chromatic look to the Kitchen. Bench tops were made 150mm high of Stainless Steel with the Stat Marble inserted into the work surface.

Mal Corboy continued the use of the Stainless Steel on the draws, doors and end panel fronts. His clients were particularly fond of Gaggenau appliances and wanted these, to not only match their overall look, but also used extensively within their Kitchen. This required sourcing and importing the Gaggenau fridge/freezer from England.

A streamline chromed handle was used on all the cabinetry which were imported from Germany, this gave the Kitchen nice lines and could be used secondary to the Blum electric push release draws. The clients are very design conscious people and coupled with the fact it was twelve months before production began for this Kitchen.

Aesop Store in Singapore by March Studio

Aesop Store by March Studio

This new Aesop store interior in Singapore is designed by Melbourne architects March Studio. The architects have hung 30 km of coconut-husk string from the ceiling of the new shop in Singapore the Australian skincare brand Aesop.

Aesop Store by March Studio

Designed in collaboration with Aesop director Dennis Paphitis, the interior was inspired by the twine used to tie the company’s gift boxes. In our Singapore store, thirty kilometres of coconut husk string, a regional product, was used to construct a dynamic whole-ceiling light fixture. When combined en mass, the seemingly insignificant threads mesmerise and remind one of airline magazine flight maps.

Aesop Director Dennis Paphitis says, “Geography, climate and light all inform which path we take with our design decisions. For Singapore, we referenced the humble ball of twine with which we wrap and detail our gift boxes. The entire store is framed with meticulously detailed grids that suspend twine from the ceiling. The idea is to work with a sombre material palette in an unexpected way. We’ve used coir matting as carpet and marine plywood to detail our storage units which conceal a palette of Corbusier-inspired coloured wall panels.”
